Glengoyne "The Concept"

Over the last few years they've notice some big changes at Glengoyne, the Single Malt Distillery just north of Glasgow. A trend towards independent travel, fuelled by internet holiday planning, has ensured that a higher percentage of visitors arrive by car. This, coupled with increased international awareness of the dangers of drink driving has given the popular distillery a peculiar problem.

Stuart Hendry of Glengoyne Distillery commented that "more and more of our distillery visitors are merely nosing their free sample, leaving the glass un-drunk, before buying a bottle to take home. Our recent study suggests that over 25% of our 40,000 visitors per year follow this trend, meaning a whopping 10,000 drams, or 400 bottles of Glengoyne Single Malt are poured down the sink each year! We give all adult visitors a healthy dram of Glengoyne when they arrive. Whilst we're delighted that the drink driving message is getting through, we do find the loss of so much fine single malt rather hard to bear." Rather than take the dram away, we thought we'd take the car away - hence the launch of THE WHISKY BUS, a new, daily service from Glasgow City Center to Glengoyne Distillery. This30 minute service, operated by Mearns Executive Travel will ferry visitors and locals alike from Glasgow to Glengoyne for a spot of Highland Hospitality at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill. Glengoyne offers the widest range of tours in the industry, including the unique Master Blender tour, allowing guests to create their own unique whisky.

Stuart Hendry adds " I am delighted that visitors will be able to relax and enjoy a spot of true highland hospitality without having to worry about getting themselves home and that we can stop the unnatural practise of throwing away such a lovely drop of whisky"
